Repainting your home can be both an exciting and tricky time but either way, it’s a process that involves a number of important outcomes that can be costly or frustrating if you get things wrong. Here are 3 important things you should consider when choosing paint colours:
1. Is this your forever home or just a step on the property ladder to better things?
As we’ve already discussed previously, choosing colours that are universally appreciated and unlikely to put off potential buyers is an important thing to consider – especially if you know it will be sold sooner rather than later. However, if you genuinely feel that this is your dream home it’s perfectly fine to select colours that are highly personal to you. After all, you’re never going to leave, so why worry?!
2. Do you plan to rent or sell in the near future?
If you are planning to sell it’s crucial that you select a range of colours and tones that will enhance the value of your home, even if you don’t appreciate them personally. However, if you’re planning to rent, whilst it’s probably still better to choose more neutral colour options, potential tenants are often less likely to be put off by a brilliant purple in the spare bedroom! Balance is the key though, especially when consider point number 3.
3. Do you like the colours you’ve selected?
Life has a funny habit of changing your plans. If you feel there’s even just an outside chance that you may have to reside a little longer than you planned to, or you now need to take your property back off the rental the market and live in it yourself, make sure your colours still suit you because nobody wants to live in home devoid of personality and depth!
